We had the pleasure of hosting David and Gayle Ireland a few weeks ago. They stopped over for 24 hours on their way to Poland and Russia. Although residing in Australia, David is originally from England, and he told us some fascinating stories of when he was export manager for Ladybird Clothing way back in the early seventies.
Once a year he would meet with government officials in Prague and Brno and present the company's range of clothing. If his sales pitch was successful, selected items would go on sale in special Tuzex shops around the country. These shops only sold western goods and local Czechs could only make purchases using hard currency or special coupons (called Bony). No koruny allowed. See the link below for more details.
